In episode seven of this season’s Time Capsule, I reference the book “Burning Desires: Sex in America” by Steve Chapple and David Talbot to detail the events leading up to what becomes The Silver Chain’s last dance.
Learning about a book that chronicles the club’s demise was a time capsule in itself. And while both Dr. Keith Henry and Tammy’s personal recollections were sharp with detail almost forty years later, a section of the book’s first chapter also tells the story of a swinger who went by the alias “Jack Bonner,” a world traveler who returns to Minneapolis after two positive AIDS tests shutter both The Silver Chain and sister club Sugar and Spice.
I also learn something I did not know about Jimmy Carter.
Join me and our show’s producer, Marcel Malekebu, as we discuss what happened after The Silver Chain disconnected their phone line. XO Paul
